Ochrzczony 14 maja 1727 roku w Sudbury. Zmarł 2 sierpnia 1788 w Londynie. Angielski malarz, portrecista i pejzażysta.

 Pomimo bycia płodnym portrecistą, Gainsborough czerpał większą satysfakcję ze swoich pejzaży. Przypisuje się mu (wraz z Richardem Wilsonem) twórcę XVIII-wiecznej brytyjskiej szkoły krajobrazowej. Gainsborough był członkiem-założycielem Akademii Królewskiej.
